Do you swim here often?
If you do, this blog may be for you! It aims to celebrate the practice of outdoor and cold water swimming and provide useful information for those that do. It comes from the people that swim year-round at Tooting Bec Lido and reaches out to anyone who is interested in a bit of cod philosophy and collective wisdom on the subject.
It was inspired by the realisation that if you make a habit of splashing around in cold water you need to protect your ears. The original name was ’Swim Ear Often’ and it aimed to deal with conditions like Swimmer’s Ear and Surfer’s Ear and the lotions, potions, swim caps and ear plugs you can use to counter them.
That’s still on the agenda but there’s so much more to cold water swimming. Tooting Bec Lido is a very large pool (100 yards long and 30 wide) and this blog aims to be similarly expansive. We’ll dive deep on some subjects and and skim the surface on others, show a bit of pace here and then dawdle unnecessarily somewhere else.
Here are some of the things we’ll take a look at:
- Looking after your ears
- Whatnots to wear
- Lotions and potions
- Sound, cameras, action
- Cod philosophy and cake recipes
- The damp questionnaire
- Art and and much more
